Intellect Seed Extract comes from a seed grown on a tree called Celastrus paniculatus. Celastrus paniculatus is a woody liana, a plant with wood as its structural tissue and long-stemmed vines that are rooted in the soil at ground level. These vines use trees and other means of vertical support to climb up and get access to sunlight. It is also known as black oil plant, climbing staff tree, and intellect tree.
This climbing shrub grows throughout India at elevations up to 1,800 m (5,900 ft). Its relative, Celastrus orbiculatus, grows in the United States but its seeds are poisonous and can’t be consumed.
What does it do?
Although there is evidence that the oil was used to also cure skin ailments, the seeds of the Intellect Tree have primarily been used for centuries in South Asian traditional medicine to improve mental focus. This is due in part to its high concentration of antioxidants. Ayurveda, a system of medicine with historical roots in the Indian subcontinent, classifies intellect tree as a “medhya rasayanas”. In Sanskrit, “medhya” means intellect/cognition and “rasayana” means “rejuvenation”.
Users either eat the whole seed or consume the oil to increase mental sharpness while relaxing the nerves. In fact, it is considered by some to be a more effective memory supplement than ginkgo biloba, which has achieved some popularity as an herb to prevent or slow the progression of Alzheimer’s. It is also used to help induce both vivid and lucid dream states. Today, it is an increasingly popular nootropic supplement and is classified as a ‘racetam’.
Why is Intellect Seed Extract in my LIMITLESS PRODUCTS?
Most racetams work by affecting the production and degradation of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
Acetylcholine plays a powerful role in the brain, responsible for memory formation, attention and logical thinking, as well as other vital cognitive functions.
Certain racetams work by boosting the functioning of the acetylcholine receptors, while others improve the production of the neurotransmitter and/or impede the breakdown of acetylcholine.
Each of these actions can vastly improve the body’s cholinergic system. Your brain takes choline and turns it into acetylcholine, and while scientists admit they don’t fully understand acetylcholine yet, they know enough to know that the brain uses it for everything from learning and focus to decision-making, memory and other cognitive activities.
Racetams also help to boost the amount of oxygen, glucose and nutrients travelling from your blood to the brain, giving your brain more fuel. Improved glucose metabolism helps to boost concentration, focus and mental energy.
By boosting acetylcholine and glucose metabolism, racetams are powerful tools to have in your nootropic arsenal which is why they are in most of ours.
